Thomas P. Ravenelle Named Special Agent in Charge of Denver Division

Director Robert S. Mueller, III has named Thomas P. Ravenelle special agent in charge of the FBI’s Denver Division. Mr. Ravenelle most recently served in the Inspection Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C, leading inspections of field offices and investigations of shooting incidents involving FBI agents.

Mr. Ravenelle began his career as an FBI agent in 1987. He first reported to the St. Louis Division, where he investigated violent crimes and was a member of the SWAT team.

In March 1991, Mr. Ravenelle transferred to the San Francisco Division and investigated white-collar crimes in San Francisco and San Jose. He then moved to the counterterrorism program in August 1993 to investigate international and domestic terrorism matters in San Francisco and Oakland. He also served on the SWAT team from 1991 through 1998 and became a special agent bomb technician in 1995. In December 1998, Mr. Ravenelle was promoted to supervisory special agent to oversee domestic and international terrorism squads. In March 2002, he was assigned to lead a criminal enterprise squad, where he supervised Mexican drug trafficking investigations.

Mr. Ravenelle was promoted in February 2006 to assistant inspector/team leader in the Inspection Division at FBI Headquarters and participated in more than 20 field office and FBI Headquarters inspections.

In April 2008, Mr. Ravenelle returned to the San Francisco Division as the assistant special agent in charge for the Cyber and Civil Rights Programs. Mr. Ravenelle was promoted to inspector in the Inspection Division in January 2012.
